A trader buys and sells the same goods. A manufacturer buys dozens of raw materials, sends some out for job work, gets them back, turns them into finished goods and sells those at a different rate. Every one of those steps has a GST rule attached.
Material sent to a job worker must go on a challan and come back within a year, or it is treated as a sale. Job work movements have to be reported in ITC-04. Input tax credit on raw material is only available if the supplier’s invoice shows up in your GSTR-2B. Dispatches need e-way bills, and above ₹5 crore turnover, every B2B invoice needs an e-invoice.
Milaan ERP builds these rules into your daily work. Job work challans are part of the stock system, so you always know what is out and when it is due. Purchase bills record input tax as they are entered. Invoices carry everything needed for e-invoices and e-way bills.
At month end, your CA gets clean GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B figures instead of a pile of bills.
These are the issues CAs and factory owners bring up most often.
Material goes to a job worker on a slip and is never tracked. After a year it becomes a GST problem.
Send material on a proper challan. See what is out with each job worker and what is nearing the one-year limit.
Job work details are collected from registers every time the return is due.
Challans sent and received are recorded as you work, so the job work report is ready when you need it.
Purchase bills are entered late or not at all, and credit is missed.
Every purchase bill records input tax. Compare with GSTR-2B to find suppliers who haven’t filed.
The office re-enters invoice details on the government portal while the truck waits.
E-invoice and e-way bill details come from the invoice you already made.
Compliance that happens as you work, not at month end.

Fabricated parts go out for powder coating on a job work challan. The challan shows the due date, and an e-way bill is made if needed.
Raw material bills are entered when goods arrive. Input tax is recorded straight away, not at month end.
The invoice carries HSN, rates and the customer’s GSTIN. E-invoice and e-way bill details come straight from it.
GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B summaries are exported for your CA. Purchase bills are checked against GSTR-2B and missing ones are followed up.
Under GST, you can send inputs to a job worker without paying tax, as long as they go on a challan and come back within one year (three years for capital goods like moulds and dies). If they don’t, the law treats them as supplied on the day they went out. Job work movements are reported in ITC-04: half-yearly if your turnover is above ₹5 crore, and yearly otherwise.
Milaan ERP tracks every job work challan as stock held with the job worker. You see what is out, with whom, and how close each challan is to its time limit, and the ITC-04 data builds up as you work.
Tip: GST rules and dates change from time to time. Always confirm the current due dates with your CA.
